Solo Stove Review

For Christmas I got the Solo Stove Titan and the 2 pan set. The Solo Stove is a small camp fire pit that you can also cook on. It uses real wood, instead of gas. What I immediately liked is that you can have a fire without much smoke. And it’s easy to get a fire started in the Solo Stove.

The limited smoke really sold me on getting the Solo Stove Bonfire for the house. While not the smallest, it is manageable to take on a camp trip if there isn’t a fire pit, or you don’t want to use one. I’ve reviewed the Bonfire here.

The Bonfire

So here are my general observations:

  • Size - the Titan is super easy to pack and very light. It’s great when you’re doing dispersed camping since it can be a small bonfire at night. For four of us it can get a little tight around the fire.

  • Heat generation - this thing gets hot. Things cook fast and when you’re using it more like a bonfire it does give some heat.

  • Enjoyment factor - it’s really nice to be able to start up a quick fire that can go out pretty quick for those mornings where you might not want to deal sitting around waiting for a fire to be out. The limited smoke is what sold us on getting a bigger one (the Ranger). We absolutely LOVE a campfire but the smoke gets us.

  • Convenience - we also have a camp BBQ, Camp stove and burner. I rarely take the BBQ and stove and the Solo Stove could replace both with some menu planning. For longer trips I would take the solo stove and the camp stove.

  • Cost - with the stove and pots you’re looking at about $150. The site always seems to have a sale going on but the best one I’ve seen is around the holidays when they offer a 2 for 1 sale. That assumes you want two items of course but the pans and the stove are sold separately. Otherwise there is always the REI member sale.
